![]() ![]() Indeed, he’s contributed songs to Teen Titans GO! However, the thing I’m most excited about is the fact that he’s currently producing an animated series with Roddenberry Productions that is (sort of) related to Star Trek! Our conversation then turned to his personal projects. We didn’t get into Cipes’ actual, personal religious beliefs, or what he meant when he said “a worshiper of goddesses.” While I know that some might balk at the notion that women are divine simply because of motherhood, I took his gesture to be one of the utmost respect. That was really cool that I got to implement that into the show.” “We’ve got great female characters like Raven and Starfire, and as an actor, and a worshiper of goddesses, I brought in the lingo of calling all women ‘mama.’ Beast Boy calls all women ‘mama,’ and that was my doing, because I believe that all women are mama. “ very easy to enjoy…something that you can just enjoy no matter what age you are. He’s especially proud of the way that girls can see themselves in the show, and he talked about how he made a certain conscious choice about Beast Boy in order to, in his own small way, honor women and girls. I think Teen Titans GO!, as much as little kids love it, it’s a show for us. Whereas maybe the original Teen Titans a more specific demographic and it stayed within that. “It’s not just the kids of a younger generation, it’s the parents that watch it, it’s everybody in between. I asked him whether he noticed a difference in the demographics of the fans of the show between doing the original Teen Titans and moving on to Teen Titans GO! “I’ve just noticed with Teen Titans GO! that everyone loves our show,” he said. You can watch the full panel in the video above, but I was fortunate enough to get to talk to Greg Cipes one-on-one just before the panel, and he talked about the broad appeal of Teen Titans GO! and his involvement with the name behind another big franchise… Star Trek! He’s an international treasure.I had the pleasure of moderating the Teen Titans GO! panel this weekend at WonderCon 2017, and I got to see first-hand the spell that these folks - particularly the voice actors, Greg Cipes (Beast Boy) and Scott Menville (Robin) - cast on fans young and old alike. Really though, is there any series that wouldn’t be better with David Tennant? The man has played the Doctor and Scrooge McDuck. His captivatingly creepy turn as Kilgrave in Jessica Jones is all the proof anyone would need that he has what it takes to be an amazing, scene-stealing villain. David Tennant could play Mod better than pretty much any modern actor could. Every superhero show can use a Joker stand-in and Mod could easily be the one for Titans. While the standard silly version of the character would be very out of place on Titans, the writers could easily re-imagine him into a more interesting character. While he has had a few sparse appearances over the years, it wasn’t until the Cartoon Network version of the character where he really gained popularity. Unlike many of the franchise’s villains, Mod fell into relative obscurity for decades. Mad Mod was one of the first Titans villains and is still one of the silliest. Between his roles in Detroit and The Hate U Give, Smith has more than proven he could step into Vic Stone's metal shoes. If Cyborg had been permitted to join his teammates in Titans, actor Algee Smith could easily have fit into the role. While famous Titan Beast Boy is known for his start on that famous DC team, Cyborg wasn't associated with them. Then DC Universe surprised everyone again by announcing that the character would be included in their Titans spin-off Doom Patrol. Most fans figured his larger role in the DCEU was why he wasn't chosen to take part in the small screen adaptation of his primary superhero team. He was even featured in the 2017 Justice League movie played by Ray Fisher. The character has made waves for decades ever since his first appearance in Marv Wolfman's "The New Teen Titans." Since then he has been a staple of not only that team but also the Justice League. Fans were very disappointed when they saw that fan-favorite character Cyborg wouldn't be in the Titans lineup. ![]()
